Ⅱ Why to Carry out Sunshine in Your Heart Project

At present the psychological health problem with the youth have become increasingly serious. It is urgent to create an excellent development environment for the youth through the common efforts of all levels of the society. The youth is the backbone of the construction of the future of a country. In face of current rapid development of society to construct the quality education of the youth is a heavy and long-term responsibility. Only by consistently improving the psychological quality education of the youth and enhancing the healthy growth physically and psychologically of the youth can the longstanding objective of national across-the-board quality education be ultimately achieved.

In order to implement No. 8 and No. 16 documents issued by the State Council of Central Committee of CPC in 2004 and further strengthen and improve the ideological and political education of college students; to help those students with psychological problem or temporarily weak in psychology to solve psychological problems; in order to call on the whole society to pay attention to the psychological health education of the youth, help the youth to obtain healthy thinking mode, Red Cross Society of China in 2004 developed the public-spirited activity Sunshine in Your Heart Project targeting at the public psychological health.

3. Program introduction
Youth Life Education program
Targeting at high school and college students it invites domestic and foreign famous educationists to hold campus lectures and develops series of courses Life Education-Basis of Successful Life.

It is intended to provide healthy thinking mode for the youth, help them cultivate healthy self-image, develop positive interpersonal skills and solve conflicts, cultivate the character of maintaining long-term friendship and deliver correct idea on post-marriage sexuality; help the youth to be mature at grow-up and become healthy, optimistic and responsible young person; prevent the youth from suicide, depression, anxiety and drugs; reduce sexual disorder so as to reduce the occurrence rate of sexual disease, teenage pregnancy and AIDS.

Choosing series books YTL Contemporary Youth Education (student version) as teaching materials, the courses set up include following content,

YTL Contemporary Youth Education teachers’ training program
Targeting at middle school and college teachers, head teachers, tutors and educational workers, it develops weekend training meeting, invites foreign and domestic educationist, select training material of YTL Contemporary Youth Education and carries out education popularity activities in such forms as training conference across China.

The purpose is to train educational workers to understand how to help the youth live healthily, go through various confusions at adolescence, provide course help to all educational workers who are willing to have positive influence to the youth and turn the classroom to where to exchange ideas with students.

Ⅶ Effect of Expansion of Sunshine in Your Heart Project

1. Scope of Popularity

Sunshine in Your Heart project is till now the first multi-dimensional public-spirited project of education popularity held across the country targeting at the psychological health problems of the youth for the youth, teachers and parents.
Sunshine in Your Heart Project began to expand gradually based on the center of Beijing since 2004 and at present it has covered such cities and provinces as Beijing, Guangzhou, Sichun, Shanghai, Hebei, Shandong, Yunnan and Tianjin.
The project held various lectures and training activities for students and teachers and promoted long-term and common popularity work of psychological health education for the youth across China.

2. Number of Beneficiaries

Since Sunshine in Your Heart Project was launched in 2004 it has held more than 150 campus lectures in around 60 campuses in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Sichuan, Shandong, Yunnan, Hebei and Yianjin. The number of audience has reached to 60 thousand. The project has donated more than 50 thousand books welcomed by the society and the school. The project has received over 10 thousand questions and over 400 reflections written by students and received lecture reservation calls from over 100 universities.
The project went to 41 schools in 2006, held 93 courses or lectures with the accumulated number of audience up to over 29 thousand. There are over two thousand teachers and one thousand parents in total having participated in the training.
3. Media Report
Sunshine in Your Heart Project is reported by over 100 media such as plane media, internet and road board during the expansion. CCTV news channel, documentary program and Oriental Horizon in succession went to campus to cover and report; the program of adolescent teleplays also wrote a play based on the educational materials and cases of Sunshine in Your Heart Project.

4. Feedback from the Audience

Since March of 2006 Peking University began to select teaching materials of Sunshine in Your Heart Project to set up the course of life education of college students. The class schedule is every Monday from March to June and from September to December each year. Peking University has a No.114 room of electric teaching building with 120 seats and every Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. it is always packed out. Here the life education course delivered by specially-invited foreign expert by Sunshine in Your Heart Project and teachers of Education College of Peking University attracts all students deeply. Even students with no seats would stand at the back of the room and finish listening to the whole course. Some students reflected, "Each Monday evening is a happy moment." Thus it can tell the identification and aspiration of students for the course of life education.

Following the open-up of the course by Peking University, Capital Normal University in September of 2006 also set up the selective course of general knowledge Life Education-Basis of Successful Life. Capital Normal University takes up the important responsibility of cultivating national middle school teachers. According to Zhao Kai, teacher of psychology major of the school, there are 108 students registering for this selective course on internet, but as the course is held the second time the number of students attending the course has increased to over 140.

A student from Peking University after studying this course wrote an article with the title-Changes I undergo in the Course Life Education in which there is one paragraph, "I feel so lucky to select this course which changes the way I see myself and others; it changes the way people see each other in this society and my attitude for life. I really appreciate it. Maybe I am still indifferent in heart, but I know I begin to get consciousness; maybe I still lack of patience for family but I begin to love them by what I learnt; maybe I’m still afraid of communicating with strangers but I know I begin to have sense of security; maybe I’m still confused about a lot of things but so what? I know I’m growing. Compared with the things I have down, what is more important is the growth of my character. I can fear nothing or worry about nothing as long as I struggle to grow up."

Another student from Peking University with the family name Lu wrote this, "I have to say that the course Life Education let me know there is another education existing and it let me know the essential purpose of education or college education and I also recognize my misunderstandings on some important issues and it more enlightens me to think of all sides of life, to solve confusions in my heart. This course touches my soul and bestows me the feeling of freshness wholly; this lesson gives hints at a crucial moment and becomes the light tower in my life."

Sunshine in Your Heart Project echoes with the standard of Eight Honors and Eight Shames suggested by Chairman Hu, helps the youth to firmly establish long-range and broad-minded ideal and recreate the value of life, honor and main stream value in new era; it echoes with the advocate that the government would establish harmonious society, orientate in human, emphasize psychological harmony.
